An ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) camera is a sophisticated image-processing system designed to automatically read vehicle license plates. Unlike a standard camera, it combines high-resolution image capture, often using infrared (IR) technology for consistent performance in all lighting and weather conditions, with powerful onboard software.

The core process involves three stages: capturing a clear image of the vehicle, locating and isolating the license plate within the image, and then using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to translate the plate image into digital alphanumeric data. This data can be instantly checked against databases for various applications.
